This Week in TV!

With a new year upon us comes an array of new seasons of our favourite television shows. Okay, maybe array was a reach because there’s not a whole lot that’s started just yet. (Waiting on Scandal, How To Get Away with Murder, and of course Game of Thrones)

Memorable shows of the week: Girls, Shameless, Vanderpump Rules

GIRLS

Lena Dunham and her crazy bishes are back for an all new season. Totally forgot how we left off last season, but still totally excited for the girls. Hannah is on her way out of the city for a graduating writing program in Idaho. Yeah, Idaho. Adam has no gained control of their apartment, she’s no longer paying rent so I guess this means she’s gone for good. Or at least until she realizes she’s making a huge mistake, which seeing how there’s only 10 episodes a season won’t take that long.

Brunch

Adam’s all heartbroken that Hannah’s leaving but doesn’t show it at all at the beginning of the episode. He’s all ‘we have 10 different ways of contacting each other –we’ll be fine’ and then in the end he finally admits he sucks at using the phone. Hannah assures him they will be alright. Nothing like boring missionary sexy (very unlike Hannah/Adam) to guarantee how wrong she is about their fate.

Shoshanna had the best lines of the episode. This is what’s so amazing about the writing of this show. They have about 27 minutes to explain all of everything, and each line of dialogue has to be used carefully. While she’s picking up her diploma we realize how crazy her divorced parents are, she says “Both my parents are named Mel (Melvin & Melanie) it’s the worst thing that ever happened to me. And it was like the first thing that ever happened to me”

Jessa visits Beadie, the woman she tried to kill last season. Let me make that clear, Beadie was on her death bed and begged Jessa to basically feed her a bunch of pills so she could overdose. Welp, it didn’t work and now Beadie’s angry daughter played by (Orange Is The New Black’s Natasha Lyonne) is back in the city to take her mom back home with her.

Marnie and Desi perform a few songs at a brunch, we find out that Desi is still dating Clementine, but is also still sticking his face in places it doesn’t belong. (ie; Marnie’s ass) Clementine confronts Marnie and apologizes to her for thinking she was trying to steal her man. Oh Marnie, now you’re up against the nice girl! While Marnie sings a song dedicated to Hannah titled, ‘Inward and Outward’ she breaks down crying when some brats around the restaurant start running and screaming. Elijah gives her the pep talk of the decade.

In the end, Hannah is ready to leave. Adam isn’t ready to leave, so he avoids the morning of and Hannah leaves without a real goodbye. As her parents drive of her off, he watches them from the window of their apartment.

Side note: There was a conversation between Shoshanna and Ray, something about her apologizing for making him get into a relationship with her. I don’t even remember that, nor do I care about their storyline. Ugh, he annoys me.

Girls airs Sunday nights on HBO

SHAMELESS

Shameless is like, probably in my top 3 favourite shows. I love my medieval times, zombie apocalypse genred shows, but there’s something special about the raw/real moments of Shameless. I would definitely consider Shameless a ‘dramedy’ a blend of really heavy dramatic moments with surprisingly refreshing comedic bits. I think it’s a perfect combination of both genres that create really great television show. It’s summertime in Chi-town which is going to make this a little more interesting, majority of the show has taken place over the colder months so I’m excited to see our characters flourish in the atmosphere of bbq’s and pool parties.

Shameless

Seriously, if you’re not watching Shameless you need to.

Shameless airs Sunday nights on Showtime.

Vanderpump Rules

I don’t even know why I’m admitting to watching this show. It’s like the worst show on television, or at least the worst example of reality television. It’s so ridiculous, and I know it’s all set up drama, but ya can’t help but watching! Especially since everything else is on hiatus right now, desperate times.

vanderpump-rules-cast-season-3.png.pagespeed.ce.-R284eJIGMzFNzeLjmfd

I just want to say though, this season has been different, in a good way. Especially these past two weeks for Scheana and Shay’s bachelor/bachelorette parties. You can tell that this group is actually friends with one another and it sort of – almost, reminded me of the Jersey Shore cast. In my opinion, you don’t always have to have fake drama to catch people’s attention. Sometimes the funny moments with real friends is enough to start a cult following!

Which leads me to my next point – Stassi. Okay so why is she on the show though? She no longer works at Sur, she quit, and she loves to remind us on a weekly basis that she would rather die than put on a Sur uniform and work there again. Since the season started almost all her scenes have been when she ‘visits’ Sur, somehow has a heart to heart with Lisa Vanderpump, and bugs all the bartenders for a glass of white wine. Girl, bye! Like why are you even here? Last night’s episode had the most epic line of all time. Lisa Vanderpump having a sit down heart to heart with Stassi inside Sur. After telling Stassi she should just forgive Katie for basically nothing because Katie did nothing wrong, Stassi blows up and storms out of the restaurant. Lisa finally says what we’ve all known, Stassi doesn’t want friends, she wants followers. This is so true, and for the past 3 seasons I’ve watched all her ‘friends’ get into all this drama because of her. I just want to pop in and be like ‘ya’ll could have so much fun without mean girl molly’ and by the looks of the Miami trip, they sure did. VR should take a page from Jersey Shore’s rulebook that clearly stated, if you quit or got fired from working at the Shore Store you were kicked outta the house! It’s time for Stassi to pull an Angelina, take her trash bags and get out!

Vanderpump Rules airs on Bravo on Mondays (US) and Slice on Tuesday (Canada)

10 Things Girls and a Gay Guy Learned From Watching GIRLS!

Can you believe it’s already time for HBO’s Girls Season 4? The new season premieres this Sunday January 11th. We’ve been a fan of this show since it first aired and we’re super excited for the new season. But before we start predicting what we can expect in the upcoming 10 episodes, let’s go through some of the things we’ve learned from watching Girls.

These are the Top 10 Things Girls and a Gay Guy Learned From Watching Girls

10. Getting a gig at GQ magazine doesn’t mean you have all your sh** together

Let’s be honest. We all thought Hannah finally got her sh** together when she landed a writing gig at GQ magazine. I was quite excited for her, seeing how she was lost and always in between side jobs for 2 seasons. It was inspiring to see our main character finally get what she always dreamed of…but ya know she had to go and mess things up. No but for real, Hannah knew right from the get go the GQ gig wasn’t at all what she had hoped for. She felt that there was something bigger out there for her. Playing it ‘safe’ was never Hannah’s motto.

9.  Singing a Kanye West song to get revenge on your ex at his hipster corporate party. Bad idea.

This moment will probably go down in Girls history as the moment when Marnie [Allison Williams] finally made us laugh. When she finds out that her on/off again boyfriend has hit it big with his mobile app company, she wants back in. Why wouldn’t she? All of a sudden his life seems more interesting…and other girls want him? So she needs to get revenge or somehow catch his attention – so she sings her acoustic/crazy rendition of Kanye West’s “Stronger” in front of his entire work party.  In the end he did end up getting back with her so I guess it worked? Until they broke up again for the final time.

8. Don’t ever let co-workers play with your eyebrows

Hannah's Eyebrows

To this day, this image still puts me on the floor hysterically laughing. Just because a woman’s eyebrows are a treasured space on the face, why would she let anyone she just met touch her brows!! #girlbye When they’re done with her eyebrows…she flaunts them like they’re shaped to perfection. It’s absolutely hilarious! Lesson learned – there should only ever be one person that touches your eyebrows…a professional!!

7. Weekend retreat with your girlfriends might be the best thing for your friendship

cottagelife

Some might say this episode was their favourite of the entire series- and for sure it was a good one. It was unique in that we got a chance to see the girls ditch the city for a getaway weekend in the ghetto-er version of the Hamptons. It literally is the quintessential outing to let it all hang out with your girlfriends! Shout out to Shoshanna for laying down one of the best monologues of the series. This episode made it all feel like real life.

6. People can change. Exhibit Adam

I could never figure out where the writers were going with Adam’s character. I mean it’s easy to assume they weren’t going anywhere with his character because he was the guy with no goals and no aspirations, he didn’t need a ‘purpose’. Fine. But this last season, he truly showed that people and characters can change for the better! Somewhere, deep down in that smelly dark soul was a really cool guy that fit semi-perfectly with Hannah. It was the closest she’s come to the ‘real thing’. There’s hope for all of us!

5. Every girl needs access to a gay best friend.

Elijah_Hannah

Elijah was someone that I didn’t think would be a main character in the show…but duh! Why not!? These days who doesn’t have a gay best friend!? And some of Hannah’s best scenes were with Elijah, he’s with her through thick and thin, and even when things get awkward (Marnie + a couch) the besties still find their way back to one another. There’s just a next level type of bond that comes with having a gay best friend and Elijah and Hannah are the perfect example of that.

4. There will never be an okay age to lift your dads naked ass out of the bathtub

Oh god. This scene gives me the creeps, but it is so hilarious! Season one, when Hannah goes home for the weekend and her parents are getting it on in the shower, and then her dad topples over! And her mom calls in Hannah to help her lift him up! Ugh! There will never be an okay age to see what Hannah saw. I mean, lesson learned, it’s going to suck when our parents get old.

3. Girls, we’re confusing and do weird shit sometimes but you learn to love us anyway. Exhibit, Adam and Ray

No matter what guys say- they will always find a place in their hearts to love us. Just look at how cray Hannah,Shoshana,Marnie…okay basically we’re all f*@!&n  crazy. These characters are the extreme versions of craziness and the boys somehow accept their craziness and love them regardless. Boys, face it, Robin Thicke knew it, Adam and Ray know – ya’ll are lost without us.

crazyshosh

2. First time experiences will always be awkward as hell

First time experiences can always be super awkward and it’s been a stand out quality of Girls to always show the most real and most awkward moments of life. They’ve never sugar coated anything, they never turn things into ‘Sex and the City’ chic, this is real life people! I think that’s what fans of our generation have loved most about this show. Lesson learned, nothing is as perfect as what you see on TV. Unless you’re only watching Girls, then yeah, you’ve nailed it. Pun intended.

1. Nobody (ages 19-28) knows what they’re doing in life and everyone’s lost. And that’s okay

Life

I’ll never forget the first promo trailer for Girls, it had Hannah talking to her parents and telling them she was the ‘voice of a generation, or a voice, of a generation’ and it’s been the major theme of this show. It’s eye opening, it’s inspiring, and it’s sort of comforting knowing that everyone our age is going through the same thing. We’re lost, confused, and deciding on what we’re going to do for the rest of our lives….and all of that….is okay!

The fourth season of Girls premieres Sunday January 11th on HBO.

Game of Thrones: Top 10 Moments of Season 4

It’s been a few months since the Game of Thrones season 4 finale, and we’re officially wrapping up this epic season with a countdown of the greatest moments from season 4. A ton of stuff happened, so if we left anything out, comment or Tweet us. Join the discussion.

Oh and there will be spoilers! You’ve been warned.

Arya Bye

10.Arya leaves Westeros

We’re starting off this countdown with the final scene of this season, Arya stark has officially left the buildin’!! After her long and scary journey, she has the chance to finally use the Braavosi coin she received so many seasons ago. She hitches a ride on a Braavosi ship and doesn’t look back. I cannot wait for Arya’s journey in the upcoming seasons. Traditionally, they end off the seasons with a final dragon/Khaleesi shot, but this season they chose differently. I wonder if that was on purpose. This year at Comic Con a fan asked Maisie Williams (Arya) what to expect of her character in the next season, she replied ‘I am no one’. For readers of the book, this is everything

9. Grandma Tyrell admits to murdering Joffrey

Did she really admit it though? Another reason why I love Game of Thrones – the women always get a chance to shine. Lady Olenna (Margaery’s grandmother) was the definition of a boss ass bish this season when she refused to let the Lannisters control her granddaughter and the plans for the royal wedding. Whether she was in a scene with her granddaughter or Tywin Lannister, she always had something smart and sassy to say, and she usually had the last word. She might be a cute lil’ old lady but she sure knows what she’s doing, I’m sure jaws dropped when she admitted to Margaery that she had been planning Joffrey’s murder with Littlefinger. Say whaaaat!? Amazing, more twists and turns just how we like it. Also she’s given Margaery this sense of strong support and backing, and it’s really coming in use now that Margaery has to sort of ‘swoon’ Prince Tommen away from his over bearing mother Cersei.

8. Bran leaves Jon at the Night’s Watch

I think one of the reasons we love Game of Thrones so much is because they know how to break our hearts and somehow make us love them even more. The journey of Bran Stark is a long and grueling one, so when his crew arrives at the Night’s Watch every single fan was hoping for Bran to reunite with his older brother Jon. Unfortunately, the Stark children are too smart for their own good, Bran watches his brother fight and makes a heart breaking decision to leave without seeing his brother. Bran understood that the mission of finding the three eyed raven (damn you bird!) was more important than him reuniting with Jon. He knew once Jon saw him, he would never let his younger brother go beyond the wall, ruining their entire mission. Really heartbreaking scene though.

7. Prince of Dorne / Tyrion talk

Probably one of the best chats of the season, the Prince of Dorne visits Tyrion in his prison cell. This is where everyone jumped on the Dorne bandwagon, and a crucial scene for the writers wanting the audience to take OB’s side. Oberyn’s insights on the Cersei/Tyrion dynamic proves to the audience how smart and sensitive he really is. So now we like him more right? He explains the first time he ever met the Lannister children, Tyrion was still a baby. His sister Cersei hated him even then and Oberyn always wondered how one sister could hate her brother so deeply. And then he unleashes a bombshell and tells Tyrion he will fight for him during the trial by battle. So now we like and we’re worried about him too!?! Oh god this isn’t going to end well.

Littlefinger Pushes Lysa

6. Littlefinger pushes Lysa

This guy…basically started the entire show. He was behind Jon Arryn’s death, he was behind mostly everything that went wrong for the Starks…and now he’s behind Lady Lysa of the Vail because he’s about to push her into the vortex!! After he saves Sansa from King’s Landing, he lies to everyone at the Vail about her, calling her his ‘niece’. He marries Sansa’s aunt Lysa, and puts himself that much closer to ruling the Vail (practically untouchable by enemies because it sits on top of a mountain) When Lysa sees Littlefinger kissing Sansa, she freaks out and almost kills the young girl. But Littlefinger has bigger plans, one that doesn’t involve a wrinkly old witch…and one that does involve a young and beautiful red head.  He pushes Lysa into the empty hole that is thousands of feet in the air. Bye bye crazy auntie!

dragons-in-chains

5. Khaleesi locks up her dragons

We didn’t get to see a whole lot of our Khaleesi this season, but when we did see her she was most likely depressed over how powerful her teenager dragons had become. When Drogon ends up scorching a little girl from town, she has no choice but to lock up Viserion and Rhaegal (Drogon is missing). It was such an emotional scene, and probably one of the most expensive because we got to see the dragons up close…and in chains? Okay I hope those things are strong enough.

Bloood

4. Prince of Dorne Battle

Everyone loves Oberyn. From his first on screen moment he had all the ladies, and probably men cheering for him. He was the bad boy/sweetheart/nymphomaniac this season needed, and boy did he play it well to the last second. Instantly he became a fan favourite because he literally didn’t give a s@!% about what people thought of him- especially the Lannisters. He really was the knight in shining armour for Tyrion, until Gregor Clegane smushed his head so hard his brains poured out of his eyes. Graphic enough? Also, it could probably be one of the most nail biting moments of the season – true definition of a ‘trial by battle’.

Purple_Wedding

3. Joffrey Dies at his own wedding

Okay we definitely knew this was going to happen, but at a wedding- his own wedding?! Well, obviously, did you guys not watch season 3 episode 9? Nothing good ever comes out of a wedding in Game of Thrones. This was the moment every single fan had been waiting for, unfortunately it came at a time when we sort of forgot about Joffrey. It should’ve happened in his prime douchebagerry days. Nevertheless, it was an epic scene, I didn’t know what to do, laugh/cry/clap, the makeup design on poisoned Joffrey was on point. Everyone says that the book readers must find it boring or ‘not as fun’ because we know what’s about to happen. Let me just say, I was so excited for this episode, for this scene, it was worth the 6 month 1200 page read. Trust me.

Bye Daddy

2. Tyrion Lannister greatest speech of all time and then kills Tywin Lannister (his father).

Don’t mind the long title- It’s because I couldn’t find a way of separating these two scenes, because they sort of come hand in hand in understanding what led Tyrion to do what he did.  Tyrion’s speech in court showed all the pain and hurt he’s suffered through his entire life. Not only as a child, but seeing his love Shay walk onto the stand and admit to the court that she thought Tyrion was a ‘monster’, it was absolutely painful. After having a father that wants him dead, and Shay having left him for his father, what other choice did he have? He needed to make peace with King’s Landing before leaving, even if that meant killing his daddy while he was in the loo. I’ve discussed this with a bunch of people, and it was almost like everyone understood why it had to happen, but I don’t think anyone expected it to go down the way it did. Fact: Tywin is really dead, he’s not coming back. With everything Tyrion dealt with this season he really deserved a strong finish, of course it’s not just about Tyrion getting revenge, it’s also about the Kingdom. What the f is going to happen now that Prince Tommen doesn’t have Grandpapa to guide him? It might be the end of the blonde bobbleheads. Honourable Mentions: Jamie Lannister and the Eunuch who came out of the woodworks to help Tyrion escape.

Love

1. Jon Snow and Ygritte

Okay so some people will definitely disagree with this one being the number one moment but as a female fan of the show – I love the love stories!! We’ve seen our fair share of romances through the seasons, but Jon Snow and Ygritte was definitely/most probably the greatest of all time. When I read this scene in the book I immediately wished I could see it play in front of me. Some days (because I truly contemplate the outcomes of GoT on a daily basis – usually on the subway) I wish more happened in that scene, I wish they got to have a little more privacy (hello there were arrows flying around), but I still feel like it was the right timing, and it was just a tragically beautiful scene. But wipe those tears away…did you know the actors who play Jon and Ygritte are dating in real life? That makes me feel much better, but is Jon Snow ever going to find true love? Or maybe he’s destined for something greater like Khaleesi, maybe these two major characters are just never going to find real love. Maybe they’ll find each other? Okay I need to stop.

This was one of the most challenging countdowns to write up because there were so many great moments from this season, if you feel like we missed anything Tweet or Message us and let us know!

This month’s TV Addictions

It’s been a while but we are back in action with this month’s TV addictions.

Keeping Up with The Kardashians

Okay so many of you might be rolling your eyes at this title but this season of KUWTK has been pretty decent. Our personal favourite Kardashian is Khloe, so it’s no surprise that we’re tuning in when homegirl is having issues at home. All the Lamar drama is coming out in the current season, and with the recent episode it’s 100% certain Lam cheated on Khloe.

She admits to having to lie about everything, she had to give up her Yonce tickets to pretend like her and Lamar were spending the night together for their anniversary. In reality, she was alone at home and he was probably out f***** some girl. I really thought Lamar was one of the good guys, it’s scary to see what he’s turned into. It’s easy for people to throw fire at the Kardashian clan, but Khloe has always been the realest, and there’s no denying what’s been going on with her and Lamar.

Khloek

While Lamar is overseas playing for some basketball team, one of his buddies messages Khloe asking her if they’re still together because Lamar is wearing his wedding ring. Khloe screams at her phone ‘F**k your ring, you were wearing it when you were f**king someone else too’ Ouch.

Also, for the girls that are BJ crazy, Brody has been making a few appearances this season so tune in for that. Next week is the first part of the two-part episode for their Thailand family vacation. Sadly, I don’t think my man Robert tags along.

Masters of Sex

Okay so I’ve heard so many good things about this show but never actually sat down to watch it. I’m 3 episodes into the first season and it’s a really good show. It’s definitely not mind blowing, but if you’re suffering from summer TV withdrawals, then this show might do it for you. Literally, there is sex everywhere.

Ray Donovan

My night in a beautiful bespoke suit is back! Liev Schreiber returns as the dashingly violent Ray Donovan on Showtime (Sundays at 9pm). This show completely surprised me last year, I ended up watching the entire first season in under a week, and it’s back with an all new season. It’s starts off with a bang, he literally bangs the poop out of his wife, so does this mean he’s become emotionally available? Or he’s still the same Ray. Look, I have no problem with the current Ray, honestly he is the sexiest thing ever so keep doing what you’re doing RayRay. If you haven’t checked out this show, please do. It’s a cross between Entourage and Scandal. So good!

The Leftovers

O-M-G the show of the summer has finally arrived. There is something to be said about this spine chilling new series on HBO. Starring Justin Theroux and Liv Tyler (to name a few) takes place in the wake of a global “rapture” which causes the unexplainable disappearance of 2% of the world population. The show takes place in small town America, focusing on the people that were left behind. It’s such a beautiful show, it will definitely sweep you away after the first few minutes. Just beware, you have to be emotionally ready for the hour long episodes, it’s only 3 episodes in so you still have time to catch up.

the-leftovers1

Those are just some of the shows we have waiting for us on the PVR, summer might be halfway through but there is still a whole lot of entertainment out there. You just need the really expensive TV subscriptions.

Now just a caution, it is summer, we want everyone to enjoy the weather as much as possible because it won’t last forever. Save these shows for a rainy day, but once you start you won’t be able to stop. You’ve been warned.

Game of Thrones: Game on!

The Eyrie

Just a friendly reminder that there’s no new episode of Game of Thrones this Sunday- new episodes will resume June 1 (we’re already on the 8th episode!!) Yikes, don’t kill the messenger. Do kill everyone on Arya’s wish list.

So last Sunday’s episode was brilliant, they’re all brilliant and special to watch but this episode was definitely one for the script writing books. The scene between Littlefinger and Sansa was amazing. When she walks out into the courtyard and there’s snow everywhere, suddenly it takes her back to Winterfell and she feels like a little girl again. Unfortunately, for her she’s not at Winterfell, pretty much her entire family is dead, and she has to live with the most annoying child ever. After her younger cousin smashes her snow castle, she smacks the boy up and it’s the closest we’ve seen Sansa become a more “Sassier Sansa”. We love it. Then, as the little boy runs off Littlefinger makes an entrance (how handsome did he look?) and he tells Sansa everything will be alright. She’s literally standing in front of the smartest man in the Game of Thrones realm (Khaleesi’s the smartest woman, duh).

He tells Sansa (paraphrasing), if the world was more about love than war and poltiics, she would probably be his daughter. Because he would’ve married her mother. But they don’t live in that world so it’s time to make out! He totally grabs Sansa and kisses her after telling her she’s more beautiful than her mother. Okay, this ish just got weird. He did kill Lysa later on so even though he might be vergring on pedophile status, we still think he’s the smartest man ever.

King’s Landing

This scene between Tyrion and the Prince of Dorne was my favourite of the night. Take a look.

Remembering GIRLS!

Season 3 of HBO’s surprise hit Girls is only a few months away…and although we don’t have an official premiere date…we can still rejoice in the crazy antics they left us off with in season 2.

www.indiewire.com

Charlie isn’t coming back so that whole scene with him and Marnie walking off into the ‘sunset’ is not going to make much sense in the upcoming season. We’ll see what Dunham has in store for us.

In the meantime, enjoy the video I put together!

GIRLS: Bye Bye Charlie!

There are many spoilers surrounding the upcoming season of Girls, but one that’s definitely true  – bye bye Charlie!

Which leaves us wondering what the hell is going to happen to Marnie in the third season? Last season we left off with the longtime on and off again couple finally working things out, and it seemed like they would be together for the third. Now, everything’s changed and Marnie’s back to being single …which as we know isn’t all that fun too watch!

CharlieMarnie

Apparently, Charlie (played by Christopher Abbott) had a falling out with Lena Dunham on set…and decided he wanted out of the show. How much of that is true…we really don’t know…but Christopher did leave the show abruptly which leads us to assume some drrrama went down.

Here’s what Allison Williams who plays Marnie had to say about the situation:

“It’s unfortunate that [Abbott] is no longer a part of the family,” she added of her costar. But Williams is also confident that the writers of the show will make it work.

“The minute I heard the news, there wasn’t a single doubt in my mind that [they] would come up with great stuff for Marnie to be doing,” she shared. “And what we’ve done so far and what we’re continuing to do is so excellent.”

We all know Lena Dunham is a genius, but how will she come out of this one? Will he have a soap opera ending and die in a car crash… or will he decide to move to Silicon Valley with the success of his iPhone app?…I guess we will see.

As for Marnie…Williams says,  “It’s almost as if we skipped her third season and have gone on to single Marnie.”

Waah! Photos from the set of the third season have leaked, showing a very toned and in shape Marnie.  Instead of sulking about Charlie, she is putting hard time in at the gym! If only that would work for all of us.

Game of Thrones: George R.R. Martin Explains Red Wedding

With the season finale of Game of Thrones only a few days away, the author George R.R Martin talks about the ‘Red Wedding’ episode last night on Conan.

Let me just point out that this man is a perfect hybrid of a crazy person and genius. For someone to create a fantasy world like he has, with all the characters that he’s created…and killed…no normal person can put this thing together. He’s a genius…a crazy genius, and we should be lucky that he’s still alive to explain some of his unnatural choices.

robbanddeadwife

Fans of the HBO series are still recovering from last week’s ‘Red Wedding’ episode where Martin created a beautiful wedding…then decided to kill our favourite cast members! Including a direwolf! Conan asks Martin why he would do such a thing?!

Martin, “I always like unexpected things. I always like the suspense to be real,” Martin explained. “I want my readers and I want my viewers to be afraid when my characters are in danger. I want them to be afraid to turn the next page because the character may not survive it.”

Martin

Although it seems like Martin wanted us all to suffer minor strokes last Sunday, he still feels bad for the decisions he put down on paper many years ago.

Martin, “It’s one thing to kill these characters when they’re just people on paper, but when you actually meet the actors who portray them and you know you’re making people unemployed, it does bring up a certain amount of guilt feelings,” Martin told O’Brien.

…”At one point I had a drink in my hand and I’m talking to three of the cast members in a corner, and we’re laughing and having a good time,” Martin said. “Then I had this realization that all three of these perfectly nice people were going to be dead before it was over. It’s sort of awkward when you’re dealing with people who in essence you’ve already fired, but I of course fired them 10 years ago, before I knew them,” Martin continued. “So there’s some mitigation there.”

Game of Thrones: Season Finale!

hboNext Sunday is the season finale of HBO’s Game of Thrones. I can’t believe it’s almost over…after last week’s ‘Red Wedding’ will the writers give us another surprise at the Royal Wedding? Don’t miss it this Sunday night and check back with us for more Game of Thrones recaps and reviews.

Check it out.

Game of Thrones: The Killing

With the second last episode of the season, tonight’s episode of Game of Thrones was probably the best yet. Right off the start there was action…Jon Snow finally gets his chance to escape the wildling clan, Khaleesi and her men do work…and Robb Stark…well let’s not get into that just yet.

Khaleesi and her army come up with a plan to take over another city…seems like that’s all she’s doing these days. Her new man with the piercing blue eyes knows how to sneak in through the city walls, Sir Jorah is totally jealous that he’s not the go-to-guy anymore. They breach the city walls, but come face to face with an entire army…we see them battle it out and then the scene cuts. In the end, Sir Jorah and her Unsullied return with good news…although they’re covered in blood. Khaleesi looks worried as she asks for Daario. Ser Jorah looks sad…but most likely because Daario is still alive…and very into Khaleesi.

daario

Arya and The Hound make their way to the castle….closer to Arya’s mother and Robb.

Bran, Rickon and the rest of their crew find shelter in an abandoned windmill. As they’re waiting out the storm they hear a horse approaching…all of a sudden two major story lines in the show intersect and the episode just got a whole lot cooler.  Jon and his wildling crew have past the wall and are now taking over land. They come across a house and decide to kill the man inside before he can warn the crows. One of the wildlings hears screaming from the windmill…Hodor is inside freaking out because of the thunderstorm. They try to calm him down but he doesn’t stop screaming until Brnn does some weird thing and goes into Hodor’s mind…shutting him up. Bran is surprised at his warg ability…because he’s never done this in real life…especially not to another human. He’s done it in his dreams, but tonight…he does it for realz. Back on the ground, the wildlings catch up to the man on the horse and are about to cut his head off until one of the wildlings asks Jon Snow to kill the guy.

JonSnow

Bran forces himself and uses his warg powers to jump into Summer the direwolf who is on the ground near Jon Snow. He does his weird eye rolling thing and is immediately inside Summer. He can see everything that is happening downstairs…he can actually see Jon Snow. Jon Snow is about to kill the man, Ygritte is begging him to do it, but after a few minutes Jon stalls and immediately starts a fight with the wildlings. Ygritte defends him, the direwolf jumps into the fight ripping the wildlings a part. In the end, Jon Snow breaks free, he gets onto a horse and gallops away leaving Ygritte alone. I completely forgot what happened in the book…I couldn’t remember if Jon comes back for Ygritte…but seeing it happen and seeing the disappointment in her face as he gallops away…it was so emotional!ygritte

Back in the tower, Bran advises Rickon they should separate, if anything happens to them at least there will be one heir to Winterfell alive…little do they know now they are the only two left.

So the wedding is one of the biggest moments of this third season, when I read the book I was absolutely shocked when I read it, I literally refused to believe it. I went back and forth reading over the chapter making sure it wasn’t a bad dream…but actually happens. I was confused as to why they would kill more members of the Stark family…haven’t they been through enough? Haven’t WE been through enough? Why can’t they just have a happy ending?

Robb gets his uncle to marry one of Lord Walder Frey daughter’s after Robb failed on his promise to marry one of them. Apparently, Tully never got over this and after the wedding sets up Robb, his wife, and Lady Catelyn. It was the hardest twenty minutes to get through, I knew it was coming, I knew tears would be coming…and I wasn’t mistaken.

It was a really emotional few minutes. Arya and The Hound are so close…Arya is finally going to reunite with her family…and I can only imagine how surprising this must’ve been for fans who hadn’t read the book. After Robb’s uncle and new wife are escorted out of the hall…Robb’s wife tells him that she is pregnant…she has decided on a name for the child if it’s a boy…it will be Eddard Stark. Robb is so proud, he’s so happy…Catelyn looks over at them and she forms a smile for the couple.  Everything is going so well…obviously something is going to happen because nothing ever good happens to the Starks. After most of the crowd has left the hall…one of the guards shuts the door…hearing the lock sound…you just know something’s going to happen. Catelyn is totally sketched out…there’s a look on her face…she’s skeptical. Frey calls for everyone’s attention. Robb is beaming with joy…he’s totally ready to get out of there and celebrate his wife’s pregnancy with his people.

Frey reminds them of how they betray him…how they promised Robb would marry one of his daughter’s, Robb took an oath…and he broke it. Catelyn looks over at the guy beside her…she knows…she looks under his suit and he’s wearing his war chains. She stands up and warns Robb but it is too late…there’s a guard charging at his wife, they stab her stomach repeatedly, Robb tries to run for her but a swarm of soldiers shoot down arrows from above.

Arya is at the gates of the hall. She sees the soldiers from Winterfell, she hears them cheering. She’s about to remove herself from the shadows when Frey soldiers come by and kill the Winterfell soldiers. She hangs back until everyone is gone, she knows something horrible has happened. In the end, Catelyn tries pleading for her son’s life. Robb is looking over his dead wife’s body, he is completely dead inside…another guard comes up to him and stabs a final blow into him. Catelyn stands there, she tries to take Frey’s wife captive…but he doesn’t really care claiming ‘he can just find another one’. Catelyn slices the girls neck…and a guard comes from behind and cuts Catelyn’s throat.

thehound

She spots the direwolf in the cages, she tries to go and free it but another group of soldiers comes by and six of them shoot arrows into the cage…you hear a small whelp from the direwolf and we see it go down. For the Starks, the direwolf connection is so strong, when Robb is killed…the wolf dies with him. OMG so sad this scene killed me. Just as Arya is about to run towards the direwolf The Hound finds her and picks her up. He hits her over the head and carries her away from the carnage.
