I’m really sad to report that NBC’s new prime-time series is being cancelled with only 3 episodes into the season. It actually comes as a shock, I actually liked the show, with its 1960s charm and underlying mafia theme. The fact that ABC’s Charlie’s Angels is still on air…and Playboy Club gets cancelled after 3 episodes is really disappointing.
Hugh Heffner had some thoughts about the shows cancellation- and quite frankly I agree with him! Speaking out on Twitter after the anticipated cancellation, Heffner tweeted, “It should have been on cable, aimed at a more adult audience.” In my opinion, the Playboy Club should have been picked up on a cable network like HBO or Showtime. Obviously, network tv can’t show what really happened in those clubs. If HBO were to pick up this show…they would be able to show the real down and dirty. Also, there would have been a better chance to get some hotshot director working the pilot (like Boardwalk Empire)
Oh well. In other news, don’t forge to watch Vampire Diaries tonight!!
Yesterday, we were making fun of Eddie Cibrian…whose ex-wife was dissing him on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Well today…we can say something good about Eddie and his blossoming career at the age of 38. NBC’s new prime-time series The Playboy Club is doing really well. I don’t want to giveaway any spoilers, all I have to say is this show is a must see. I was a little skeptical at first, Eddie isn’t known for his glorious acting skills, and I’ve never seen Amber Heard smile…but the show is actually really well done.
From the intro, the storyline picks up…and leaves you guessing as to what’s going to happen next. When the fat bald guy starts harassing Amber’s character in the backroom…Eddie comes to the rescue…and then we find out who the guy really is.
Throughout the entire show you just keep finding out little tidbits of information…that unravel the entire story….and trust me they save the best for last!
And I’m not trying to be the one to point out the elephant in the room…but I’m pretty sure in the 60s African Americans were still being discriminated in the States. Especially, a business venue like The Playboy Club. Although there is 1 African American bunny…they still mange to bring up some racial issues of that time which is really cool. They obviously make her the token black girl that’s the lead’s best friend. She’s got popular slogan’s like “Girrrrl, you better watch yoself” or “Girrrl, we know what you were doing with him, come on sugar”
Anyways, the writing is really well done, it’s never cheesy or tacky…it keeps you on the edge of your seat…and it definitely has swag bringing in a young ‘Hugh Hefner’ as the actual Playboy Club owner. (They just never show his face)
And really, who didn’t love the 60s?
